The current AU Base Patient profile supports the collection of a patient's language as well as which among many is their preferred.

This does not explicitly allow for the recording of whether or not an interpreter is required. An extension exists on the core specification to cater for this specific requirement - patient-interpreterRequired; with context of Patient and datatype of boolean.

To support working with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) clientele, this extension should be added to the AU Base Patient profile.
