Issue you'd like to raise.

Everything was working fine 10 min ago, but now when I use the ConversationalRetrievalQAChain I always get a 401 error, I tried 2 difrent API keys and the error persists, don't really know what the issue mght be, any ideas?

This is the error log:

Answer

The 401 error code is a HTTP status code that means the request sent by the client could not be authenticated. This is similar to the 403 error but specifically means that authentication is required and has failed or has not yet been provided.

In your case, the error log shows that the request to the OpenAI API failed with a 401 status code. This suggests that the API key you're using is not valid.

You mentioned that you've tried two different API keys and the error persists. This could mean that either both API keys are invalid, or there's an issue with how the API key is being included in the request.

Here's the part of the error log that shows the API key being included in the request:

headers: {
  Accept: 'application/json, text/plain, */*',
  'Content-Type': 'application/json',
  'User-Agent': 'OpenAI/NodeJS/3.2.1',
  Authorization: 'Bearer EDITED',
  'Content-Length': 53
},

The API key should be included in the Authorization header as a Bearer token. In your error log, the actual API key is not shown ('Bearer EDITED'), so it's not clear if the API key is being included correctly.

You should check the following:

  1. Make sure the API keys you're using are valid. You can do this by logging into your OpenAI account and checking your API keys.

  2. Make sure the API key is being included correctly in the Authorization header. It should be included as a Bearer token, like this: 'Bearer YOUR_API_KEY'.

  3. Make sure the API key is being correctly loaded from your environment variables. You can do this by logging the value of process.env.OPENAI_API_KEY before the request is made.

If you've checked all of these and the issue persists, it might be an issue on OpenAI's end, and you should contact their support.

Sorry I was not clear, the EDITED was added by me so that I did not expose the api key, but the entire thing was working fine 10 minutes ago, from some investigation I did it seems like there are some issues on OPENAI api right now as said here https://status.openai.com/?utm_source=embed

Hi, @santiagocalvoazumo! I'm Dosu, and I'm helping the LangChain team manage our backlog. I wanted to let you know that we are marking this issue as stale.

Based on my understanding, you were experiencing a 401 error when using the ConversationalRetrievalQAChain in LangChain. You mentioned that you tried different API keys, but the error persisted. Our team member, dosu-beta, suggested checking if the API keys are valid and if they are being included correctly in the request. You also mentioned that there might be issues with the API on OpenAI's end.

If this issue is still relevant to the latest version of the LangChain repository, please let us know by commenting on this issue. Otherwise, feel free to close the issue yourself, or it will be automatically closed in 7 days.

Thank you for your understanding and contribution to the LangChain project!
