It would be nice to be able to move from one tag to another using the arrows

tag... you mean workspace? You can though, just use

bind=mod,LEFT/RIGHT/UP/DOWN,changeworkspace,x

or am I missing something?

no not this way, like if you're on the 3rd workspace and you press mod,LEFT you'll go to the 2nd one
