A list of enhancements which can be done for empty (zero-size) mixins:

All empty mixins can share the same part of the object mixin buffer
Empty external with no allocator makes no sense (error?)
Empty with alignment makes no sense (error?)
Empty external with allocator can be used to create variable-sized instances of a mixin (useful?)

However empty mixins are expected to be quite rare. Is the effort to do any of these worth it?
