Some of the terminology is annoyingly interp-focused.

Nope, this is still going on. inducer/grudge#38 is related. I think the latest consensus is that connections should self-label as to whether they can mathematically be viewed as interpolation, projection, both or neither, and we should have both project and interp interfaces in grudge, possibly also approximate_project.
