I'm failing to see how akaska and Beaker Browser can be considered platforms (at least as they are today). As I understand, those are apps and they don't allow people to easily extend/plug into. Is that correct assessment?

That sounds right to me. Perhaps I am vague in my definition of platforms. Aren't these all apps, anyway?

Well, dapple, digx and ujo I haven't seen before, and their websites are not overly clear on what it is either, so I'm unsure. I wouldn't be opposed of scraping the Platforms category in favor of just listing them as apps right now.
