Idea: A voting system for comments #209
Comments
Related : #9 |
oh thanks @Delapouite, I had searched for this, but I couldn't found. My bad, I only had searched for "vote"/"voting" :P |
Close me, dupe of #9 as pointed out pointed out by @Delapouite |
#9 only addresses issues, but what about comments? We should either:
+1 for comment votes. Same GitLab request: http://feedback.gitlab.com/forums/176466-general/suggestions/3784679-upvote-1-and-downvote-1-for-comments |
+1 for comment votes, so necessary to see what the feel about an issue, or a comment on a code revision is. Just to even let others know you read them and that you agree or disagree. If you're submitting a controversial PR request with lots of people commenting on your work, votes can help you determine what you should take action or disregard. |
ok, I edited the title. Now its only aims comments. |
Sort by comment net vote: #601 |
the main purpose for an issue section/bug tracker/forum/etc is for: a) discuss new ideas and improvements, b) to resolve problems, c) to dismiss personal doubts.
But like in any environment with people debating, it's an urge to vote. We people, either in the real or in the virtual world, vote in ideas. To vote is so important as to talk. We vote in politics, vote at our work, vote at meetings of our childrens school, we vote at family meetings, or even with friends to make a decision. Vote is a core part of social. That's why, even without the tools we see voting in foruns/bug trackers/etc (the "+1" thing). Voting is a fundamental tool to make group decisions. This is why we have to vote with ours wives/husbands before to make the decision of buy a new jacuzzi. Voting it's a core part of making group decisions - there's no way to make a proper group decision without voting.
So, why GitHub, a tool which has the purpose to be a collaborative creative environment ("Build software better, together"), in which many different people brings ideas, and with these many and different ideas, they create something in a collaborative way, having to make group decisions, why GitHub doesn't have this basic funcionality of social-making-decisions?
For this reason, I suggest the obvious - that GitHub have a voting system, for the comments and for each issue, like YouTube (or Facebook, or Disqus, or StackOverflow, or almost any other social tool). It's not even hard to do this, it's just a like/dislike button with a counter, I'm not even asking for a pool, or badges, or a "thank you" button, or anything like that (although this will be great too) - just a simple and basic voting system. It's that so hard?
UPDATE: originally this issue asks for a "+1" system to comments and issues, but as pointed by @Delapouite, there's already an issue #9, but only for issues. I edit this issue to only address for comments as sugested by @cirosantilli. If many people asks to close this, or if the issue #9 be edited, accepting "+1" for comments too, I will close this.
