The question is in the title. Sometimes I find it practical to rely on some data securely stored in the user directory (like ~/.ssh/my-package.pem).

Tilde expansion belongs in https://github.com/isaacs/node-glob, not minimatch. And, it will only come when joyent/libuv#468 lands in libuv, and thus in Node.
