When attempting to install from source or from released version using cabal, installation crashes with this error:

Failed to install xss-sanitize-0.3.5.6
Build log ( /Users/wcm1/.cabal/logs/xss-sanitize-0.3.5.6.log ):
cabal: /Users/wcm1/.cabal/logs/xss-sanitize-0.3.5.6.log: does not exist

Using Mac Yosemite, Haskell Platform 7.10.2.

Hard to say what's going wrong here, but it's not a bug with
gitit. It's a problem with your cabal setup, most likely;
less likely, with xss-sanitize.

This might be a good opportunity to try the new stack install install method (after installing stack).

Thanks. I'll try it. I'm on a new computer that didn't even have the
Haskell Platform installed, so it's a fresh install. So unsure how my
setup could be the issue, though I certainly don't rule that out!

I'll still want to figure it out eventually so that I can build the
development version.

Without any build log, it's impossible to tell what happened.

Given the error message I wondered if just manually creating an empty log file before installing would help, but alas it did not.

I don't know why this occurs but downloading the .tar.gz file from here to ~/.cabal/packages/xss-sanitize/0.3.5.7/ manually then trying to build again worked for me.
