  • I agree to follow the Code of Conduct that this project adheres to.
  • I have searched the issue tracker for a feature request that matches the one I want to file, without success.

Feature
The drawio currently supports Flow animation which is great. However, to fully utilize these animated diagrams outside of the Draw.io platform, there is a need for an "Export as GIF" option.

Benefits:

  1. Improved Communication: Animated diagrams can significantly enhance the clarity and impact of ideas, making them ideal for presentations, educational content, and project documentation.

  2. Simplified Sharing: Exporting diagrams as GIFs would allow users to seamlessly share animated content with colleagues, clients, or stakeholders who may not have access to the Draw.io web app.

Requested Functionality:

  1. Export Options: Upon selecting "Export as GIF," users should have the ability to customize the size, frame rate, and quality of the exported GIF to suit their specific needs.

  2. Animation Preservation: The exported GIF should retain the same fluidity and smoothness of the original "Flow animation" from the Draw.io canvas.

Thank you for considering this feature request. Your efforts in making Draw.io even more functional and user-friendly are greatly appreciated.

Best,
Saman Saybani

Thanks for your suggestion. Having reviewed the feature request the effort to implement it is excessive for the benefits and so we won't be implementing it.

Work around (not ideal) - capture animation sequence as video (e.g. obs) then use ffmpeg to convert to animated gif: https://homehack.nl/create-animated-gifs-from-mp4-with-ffmpeg/

Even easier solution. Install this: https://www.screentogif.com/ - Super easy to use

I exported to SVG:

flow drawio

Then used https://html5animationtogif.com/svg-to-gif (which is quite good, it allows to select specific frames for the start and end, so the result is only 4-5 frames):

flow drawio_7ce844cb
