This is the data that was employed for the comparison of gun ownership to the number of homicides and gun-related deaths. this blog post. The analysis includes five graphs and one data set.

Field Definitions

YEAR: Reporting year

STATE: State Name

POPULATION: Population of the state for the reporting year

TOTAL HOMICIDES: Homicide counts for that state/reporting year

TOTAL CHECKS: Number of background checks performed for that state/reporting year

BACKGROUND CHECK RATE: Number of background checks performed per 100,000 people for that state/reporting year

HOMICIDE RATE: Number of homicides that occurred per 100,000 people for that state/reporting year

F-HOMICIDE RATE: Number of firearm-related homicides that occurred per 100,000 people for that state/reporting year

FIREARM DEATH RATE: Number of firearm-related deaths that occurred per 100,000 people for that state/reporting year
