How to play a regular vinyl with Digital Scratch

Julien Rosener edited this page Apr 14, 2020 · 3 revisions

The basic DJ setup for Digital-Scratch is described here. If you would like to play a regular vinyl disc, there are 2 solutions, one using hardware (cables) and another one using a software switch.

Solution 1: use 'Y' cables.

  • One 'Y' cable per turntable output plugs (ex: 4 'Y' cables for 2 stereo turntables)
  • The mixer must provide a phono AND a line input per main channel (usually there is a button to switch between phono and line input)

When you would like to play a regular record, you just have to use the switch button on the mixer to get the signal from the phono input. Play the timecoded disc and switch to line input and Digital-Scratch is working again.

Solution 2: use a software switch.

This solution is simple: redirect the sound comming out turntables (going to phono input of the sound card) to the output of the sound card. So the recorded sound is not analyzed by DigitalScratch as it would be done with the timecoded vinyl. To activate this mode, click on the THRU button of the deck on which you would use a regular vinyl disc.
