Connecting a PS EYE

juice edited this page Jul 1, 2022 · 2 revisions

A ps3 eye might be a bit low resolution, but is still a great and cheap 75fps camera that can work well, although with a slightly lower range. As it can often be found second-hand for very cheap, it is by far the best option when it comes to price/performance!

NOTE: This functionality is only available for versions v0.7 and above. You cannot connect the PS Eye directly to ATT on older versions.

To use it, first install the PS Eye driver from here. In params, set camera API to 9100, and set ID to 0. The PS Eye should now open when you press Start/stop camera!

Note that the PS Eye is a bit finicky and may sometimes not work for no real reason. Possible fixes if trying to open the camera throws any errors are:

  • Restart ApriltagTrackers. Some actions, such as opening the PS Eye with api 0, will cause api 9100 to no longer work, fixable only with a restart.
  • Try a diffrent USB port. Or sometimes just replug the PS Eye out and back in. It can be picky sometimes.

To change exposure and gain, use the parameters in the params window. Both go from 0-255. "Open camera settings" parameter will not work.
