After the installation i got maps2 to work only with the entry plugin.tx_maps2.view.googleMapsJavaScriptApiKey = ... of TypoScript Constants.

You're right. I'll update the documentation within one of the next releases.

Additionally the version under which I installed maps: 10.4.12 - works!
