Merge with upstream fmartinache/xara repo?

I think it would be worth extracting everything not JWST-specific from this branch and send a PR to @fmartinache's repo. Everythign JWST-specific could go (and mostly already is) in jwst-kpi. That way some tweaks added here can benefit other instruments and it will be esaier to keep track of what tools were used for reproductibility. What do you think @kammerje? I could work on a a branch to prepare a PR (commit authorship/contributions would be preserved automatically by git).
