This is required for a minimal working prototype.

  • Ubuntu GNOME (X11)
  • Ubuntu GNOME (Wayland) - works with gnome-shell-integration
  • KDE Neon (X11)
  • KDE Neon (Wayland)
  • Windows 11

On Wayland, the GlobalShortcuts portal will be helpful. It has been merged but it seems not to be available on GNOME 43 for now. Will this be integrated into Electron? Here is a minimal python example for using the portals.

I see that Wayland is still very difficult for such kind of an application. Nevertheless, the minimal prototype has shown that it is possible in theory - yet it will require custom backends for the various desktop environments using Wayland.
