Crosswords app on tablet changes crossword puzzle size when selecting answer

Sometimes when I'm doing a crossword puzzle, the app screen will shrink the puzzle down very small and put it into the top left corner of the screen when I tap on an open answer block. I have to reset the puzzle size by restarting the app. I am using shortz crossword v 4.4.3 on an Amazon fire tablet HD 10, 9th generation, OS 7.3.2.3. I don't remember this happening on my Samsung galaxy s20 fe 5g phone when using the app there.
