Well, there is API documentation available in https://github.com/knik0/faad2/tree/master/docs and there is the faad.exe CLI frontend which is part of every standard compile. Also, if you need something more elaborate, you could still check how more advanced tools like e.g. ffmpeg handle AAC files.
