Same thing on Windows 11. Beta 2 also can not open edits from previous versions, if they have lens corrections in the toolchain. Here is the message:
lensfun_cr

(tried on a win10home PC and a win11pro laptop)

@MJacal In an unusual effort, I couldn't open up any (Canon R7 CR3) image after a while in Win10 due to some Java IO issue. I couldn't figure out why. I decided to try to double click the thumbnail and the image opened up. I'm curious as to whether or not that trick may bypass the error you are getting. If so, it's still an error that shouldn't happen but at least a workaround can be made until it is fixed.

Nothing looks to work, it can't render lens corrections data. If I edit and save the lzn file, I can open this in Beta 1 and add lens corrections, but then Beta 2 can not open it any more.

Has this issue been tested on Linux? I could try in VirtualBox.

I haven't been using Linux (Ubuntu) much because Beta 2 (or 1) cannot open my Canon R7 CR3 files. When I get time, I'll re-visit my other CR2 images that do work, including my 5D MKIV and 7D MKII. I'll look for cases where I used lens correction. Unfortunately I often/sometimes forget that tool.
