This is a Feature Request

What would you like to be added
It would be great if: we had an interactive API reference, maybe as a separate website that integrated with our existing navigation.

I'm thinking of something as polished as https://developers.cloudflare.com/api/operations/ but for Kubernetes.

Why is this needed

  • people want to understand what to put in their manifestes (YAML / JSON), but
  • people also want to understand how those data relate to the HTTP requests that they can make, or have a client make on their behalf

and

  • people want to be able to discover any related documentation (concept guides, tasks, tutorials, maybe even blog articles)

Comments
Delivering this would be a substantial piece of work. We'd need to combine the existing API details that we generate from code and from OpenAPI, and incorporate other advice to readers. Alongside that, a whole other way to navigate the pages / site would make sense.

/area web-development
/wg api-expression

It is relevant to #25505 (about taking the best parts of our two existing ways to generate an API reference).

This issue is currently awaiting triage.

SIG Docs takes a lead on issue triage for this website, but any Kubernetes member can accept issues by applying the triage/accepted label.

The triage/accepted label can be added by org members by writing /triage accepted in a comment.

Instructions for interacting with me using PR comments are available here. If you have questions or suggestions related to my behavior, please file an issue against the kubernetes/test-infra repository.

The Kubernetes project currently lacks enough contributors to adequately respond to all issues.

This bot triages un-triaged issues according to the following rules:

  • After 90d of inactivity, lifecycle/stale is applied
  • After 30d of inactivity since lifecycle/stale was applied, lifecycle/rotten is applied
  • After 30d of inactivity since lifecycle/rotten was applied, the issue is closed

You can:

  • Mark this issue as fresh with /remove-lifecycle stale
  • Close this issue with /close
  • Offer to help out with Issue Triage

Please send feedback to sig-contributor-experience at kubernetes/community.
