Any tips on how to set up the db... it does not seem to like any combination of database/username/password I throw at it when creating the Drupal site. I had no issue logging into the phpmysql instance (mariadb/root/root).

You can mention your credentials in .env file also docker allowed store credentials in config.json file in external system. You can use AWS secret manager if you are using AWS Cloud.
