In Windows in particular, having a binary is so much easier. On Linux everything is a make away, but our beloved Windows OS is a pain in the ass for some things like compiling other people's code. I can imagine the same is to some degree true in Mac OS, but there people probably can just use the unix tools.
Having build instructions is an OK alternative.
And I know there's a GUI linked, but I just want a more recent build of mtn, this one seems to be a few years out of date, but it's a few years more up to date than the horribly outdated "official" release on sourceforge.
