I'm noticing a significant performance drop when I open an episode to the point of freezing the application time to time... I didn't notice this behavior on my other computer, so I think maybe it's because it's not universal?

It's definitely possible. However, I don't have any M1 machine to test this on so I cannot confirm it for sure..
