A really simple tool to automatically sort any directory of your choice by file extension

How to use sortdir

1 - cd into the folder you want to sort
2 - run sortdir

That's it ! Your files are sorted.

You can also use it without cd-ing with:
sortdir -dir="my/folder"

To prevent trashing your home folder, sortir will refuse to run if you try to use it on it.
