Hi,

just want to know if anybody knows what's going on with libasys and the development of calendarplus/contactplus etc?!? His last activity on Github was nearly 2 Months ago!

Obviously calendar+ and contacts+ are dead. Zero activity in the last two months...

Furthermore, both apps won't work with Owncloud 9.0, because of the following changes:

• CalDAV integration into Owncloud core: Introducing CalDAV into core owncloud/core#20371
• CardDAV Integration into Owncloud core: Introducing CardDAV into core owncloud/core#20184

These changes would require the apps to be adapted, so if nothing happens, they won't work anymore.

But happily some alternatives are on the way and are planned to be ready for Owncloud 9.0:

• Calendar rework: https://github.com/owncloud/calendar-rework
• Contacts rework: https://github.com/Henni/contactsrework

And the best thing is, that these alternatives are backed by some core developers of Owncloud, so hopefully they will be better maintained.

As far as I know both plus-apps use own implementations of CalDAV resp. CardDAV.

And for me it would be bad news if both plus-apps will be dead and not work in the future. I need two calendar-apps and two contact-apps because I have two kind of users, and I can't separate the needed data correctly in one app.

This is really bad news - I had a very quick email exchange with @libasys in the past weeks.
Due to changes in hie personal life he has no time at the moment to continue the development of his apps. 😭

I don't want to blame anybody here - but this is the reason why @jancborchardt and myself are always crying for a joint development effort on ONE app instead of multiple. Now we are back in the bad situation as before - all energy wasted fro nothing!

So where do we go from here?

• CalDAV and CardDAV will be part of core starting 9.0
• @Henni already started to build a new contacts app which operates on pure CardDAV
• we need to move the development effort of https://github.com/owncloud/calendar-rework on pure CalDAV asap @georgehrke
• we need to come up with a migration path from contacts -> core CardDAV
• we need to come up with a migration path from calendar -> core CalDAV
• We can only provide a migration path for contacts and calendar which are part of the owncloud orga - there is no time we can invest into migration of the plus apps or anything else

Totally agree with you!

I think i will start migrating my users back to the official contacts and calendar app so that i'm prepared for 9.0 ;)

Hmm ... OK, thanks @DeepDiver1975 for the information - hopefully everything goes well with @libasys

But that brings me to the conclusion that I will put a calendar and also a contact app into the stack of apps I currently work on for the company I work for. I've hopped that I could use both the official apps and also the plus-app from libasys ( as I wrote we have the need for separated apps ).

Now I have to make a clean path with my boss to bring all that work into an opensource shape so everyone can earn something from it.

@JBScoutBerlin as we said above … please don’t develop yet another separate app. Contribute to the existing reworks:

Otherwise in a few months we’ll see another set of stale apps. Join us in the #owncloud-dev channel on IRC and in the Github repos of the apps.

@jancborchardt: for sure I will join the team(s) and I will see what I can do for all.

but ... yea, I have most of the time a "but" ... but first I have to do my work for the company. We have some requirements ( not only on apps like calendar or contact ) that are far away from any "standard compliant". From my point of view we still want to use OC as the base for our own apps, and that will bring some nice technics back to the community in the next weeks, but still I have to think for the company first, and the community will have to stay behind that.

Well, @libasys basically said exactly the same a few months ago, so just as a cautionary tale. Once the new Calendar and Contacts apps are functional, additional stuff could be added on top. Until then it makes little sense to do parallel development.

Yea, that may be the case.

But* ( yea, there it is again ... ), even programming is only the second job at our company, it still is my job, and I get my money for it ;) And I'm also the decision maker here to say with systems we use and which not :-) And there are no plans that I will cancel my job here or that my boss will look for someone other for this kind of work I do :)
