Weeks 5-6

Following from the last progress report there has been 10 team meetings and 2 client meetings, hence in this report we have summarised key milestones and feedback we have received from Microsoft.

  • Created a final working version of the extension and called it neuron
  • Microsoft said there may be the possibility of working on the extension with them in the near future
  • Finished and submitted the leaflet deliverable
  • Finished and printed the poster for the hack booth presentation
  • Many special materials have been ordered and organised to create a professional hack booth presentation which hopefully stands out
  • Added 3 features that Microsoft had suggested and they were pleased with the results
  • Created a special 5-minute demonstration video as bonus work for Microsoft, which goes through how to use each feature step-by-step. We will show the video at the hack booth presentation.
  • A total of 97 Github issues have been solved, the final 6 Issues are for testing, optimization more features:
    • Microsoft Suggestion: Turn comments at top of selection into markdown for a card enhancement
    • Testing: Backend backend testing
    • Investigate Jupyter application/* MIMEs backend frontend
    • syntax highlighting of input code enhancement frontend
    • save and restore state backend frontend ui
    • optimising memory usage (destroying cards when hidden) frontend
  • Github Repository will be made public for hack booth presentation on June 14th
  • Received 16 responses on end-user survey, which gave very useful feedback for us to tailor our User Interface design and implementation of features. Generally, users were ‘very impressed’ with the product and some preferred it to software environments they currently use, which was very encouraging.

General Comments from Microsoft

  • The extension is something that could be popular in the future like Haskell extension from UCl last year.
  • We can publish this wiki as open for the presentation
  • It may be a possible to continue working on this project in the future with Microsoft

Next steps

  • Finalize preparations for Hackbooth Presentation on June 14th
