Shorten URL stopped working

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Click on the Shorten URL icon or Control-click on any page you want to 
shorten.

A shortened URL

What do you see instead?
FAIL! message

Please provide any additional information below.
Echofon 2.2.2 is also installed; tried disabling it and restarting, but it 
still doesn't work anymore (it used to work just fine). Also tried installing 
the 0.4pre5 development version, but that makes no difference.

Something is seriously wrong.
