Richard receives the following error message (using emacs/data.table version 1.9.6.):
Check that is.data.table(DT) == TRUE. Otherwise, := and :=(...) are defined for use in j, once only and in particular ways. See help(":=").

On my machine install_github() works in a normal R console

Might have been a problem with the namespace (data.table was not imported).
