Show the list of followed hashtags where one would expect them #23531
Comments
Agreed. Even as a relatively savvy user I have thus far been unable to find them.. I'm sure I will (and will kick myself when I do) but it's hardly discoverable.. |
Can you export and import followed hashtags in 4.1? If not, is this planned for a future release? |
I didn't mean to mix them with the accounts you follow but rather have a tab view, so you can switch to the list of hashtags but on the same pages where the follows are listed. That way we can have separated views but at the same places where all the follwings are listed. Something similar to this (when you click on Following on your profile): I borrowed the tab view from the notifications for this mockup. The "Posts, Posts and Replies, Media" tabs are in the same position too, when viewing posts. Something similar could be added to the "Follows and Followers" in the settings. There's another feature suggestion for having public lists you can follow. Followed lists could be just a new tab in that view or if something similar will ever be implemented. |
It's clearly not implemented on the 4.1 release..although the release notes
shoudn't have listed it in that case.

I don't get that.. maybe a browser issue? I'm using Chrome on various
platforms. Or is there an option that needs to be turned on on the server?

The Server needs to run version 4.1 or newer for it to be available.

It is, it came with #21773, is already merged and it is definitely in v4.1, that's the version of the instance I'm on and, I use it already. Double check the version your instance is running. I guess when you don't actually follow any hashtags, the option doesn't show up. Anyhow this conversation is just another example why this feature should be made easier to find. |
I'm definitely running 4.1.0 and following many hashtags.

Better file a separate bug report then. |
I think this should be closed, and a new bug report opened. Mastodon has had a list of followed hashtags for a while now, and if it's not visible it's a bug. |
Sorry but this just isn’t the logical place to put followed hashtags to me. They’re not a relationship, they’re another type of feed. I also want to be able to navigate to them in one click from home, not go navigating to my profile. And definitely don’t go hiding then in settings - they’re one of the primary ways of getting content into your feed, we need people to be using this feature! I strongly agree that something needs adding but I’d much prefer just adding a link to the current followed hashtags page in the right navigation panel #11091. That one is like 5 mins work to add, also, nothing has to move. |
Pitch
The list of followed hashtags is still kind of hidden in a drop down on the profile. I suggest also putting it were other follows are already listed, like the follows list on the profile, the "Follows and Followers" tab in the Settings and maybe even in the explore sidebar as suggested in #20802 (since its related to hashtags in general).
Motivation
As a user (especially a new one, when you don't know your way around) you would expect all your follows to be listed at the same places on the website, be it hashtags or users. It would make the hashtags you follow a lot easier to find (when you want to unfollow them again or just want to get an overview).
