When you sit idle on your desktop Caja continues to take up more and more memory. This memory doesn't get freed until you kill Caja. If you let it sit idle for an hour it can take up to 1 and 1.5 Gigabytes of storage, and even more after that point. Also, not sure if this is a related problem, Caja tends to be rather slow after sitting for more than five minutes idle.

Linux Mint Debian
Caja 1.2.0

hi tomtomom,

So I was using compiz, although switching to metacity does me no good. It still is taking in a ton of memory and is growing up to about 200MB having killed it about 5 minutes ago.

what i observed was even if you change compiz to marco (metacity is gnome3 marco is mate) it still gives huge memory footprint.

we need to switch marco as default and then a complete reboot works. do give it a try.
