Hello,
Yesterday after the update of mate repository, I installed mate. But I have a problem : when I put on my desktop the battery applet it says to me:
Can't access ACPI events in /var/run/acpid.socket! Make sure the ACPI subsystem is working and the acpid daemon is running.

But my acpid daemon is running

Can you Help me?

Is this issue still occurring? If not, is it an Arch specific issue caused by another package?

I have the same problem with recent MATE on recent Debian sid. acpid is running, the socket exists.
I don't know if this observation is helpful: the (working) gnome2 applet says (right-click, select "about")
"upower backend enabled". The mate applet seems to be compiled without upower support. Is this
the real problem?

The battstat applet is now built with optional upower support.
