Looks like all gimx libraries are not intended to be used as static libraries to make them part of single dependency-free exe.
Are the pull requests to make it static-compatible are welcome, or I can leave my changes private?

Yes such pull requests are welcome, as long as they don't break building the dynamic libraries!
