It's a Py2-only (via gtk) example that is essentially unrelated to
matplotlib (other than the fact that the console imports matplotlib by
default, which hardly counts).

Additionally, such features are probably better handled by embedding
ipython these days.

Characteristically, I am 👍 on removing this.
