Thank yo for your contribution 😃

While I appreciate that you are going to fix more things on your way I would suggest to focus on one topic. For example this PR says „Enable background color on hover for chat panel and thread panel“. But it also changes layout properties for LTR/RTL support. The latter could go to a separate PR like for example „Add RTL support for XY view“.

This makes it harder to review it.

To get this through I would suggest to focus on the background hover here. Have a look at my other comment the the suggestion about the z-index. If you have any questions just ask here 🙂

I see the point, still I am going to stick with the variable names of this PR to get ready for a future PR like except this PR: #8217 to make the layout compatible, though I am not sure what the priority for the effort would be.

Note: unless Element is going to adopt layout for vertical text in languages like Mongolian which is written vertically, using inline properties does not matter :-D

As long as property name is not logical one, it should be no problem anyway.

Also, based on your comment I suppose review is not yet to be conducted, so I am rebasing to fix the conflicts along with reverting the change related to logical properties.

An additional point: Can you please only modify the necessary spots to make the hover effect working?

I don't want to risk breaking the layout. See the other PR. This way we can get the hover effect quickly and do the refactoring of the styles later. The refactoring may take more time to review.

This should not be -60px, instead it should be -49px (--EventTile_bubble-margin-inline-start), the same value as the inline start margin of the EventTile. Otherwise the background would overflow the left gutter, which I think is not expected.

Using inline is better as it follows the rule of logical properties. You could double-check by looking up --BaseCard_EventTile-spacing-horizontal.

.mx_EventTile.mx_EventTile_bad[data-layout=bubble] actually seems to require the bubble layout. Removing the line requires .mx_GenericEventListSummary[data-layout=bubble] to be merged to the block above.
