Keyboard manager switches off occasionaly #17309
Comments
I'm not sure from the description which direction the mapping is done in. |
Hi again - the mapping is Caps Lock -> Ctrl Left. I'll send the report bug too. |
Maybe this is being caused by there being some Window that is privileged being on focus sometimes. For example, if you use Task Manager and PowerToys isn't running as admin, the mapping won't work there. (This makes sense, unprivileged apps shouldn't be able to switch key presses on privileged windows). |
Hrm, sorry I got this wrong in the report - but I am actually running as administrator. |
Couldn't replicate the described behavior. It's possible that if it only happens after just logging in that it's just the case that the Keyboard Manager Engine is still booting up. |
Does this make sense to you @aaronelliotross ? /needinfo |
No it happens kind of whenever. Don’t sweat it, if I can figure out a
correlation I’ll let you know.
Thanks for checking it out !

Hi! We've identified this issue as a duplicate of another one that already exists on this Issue Tracker. This specific instance is being closed in favor of tracking the concern over on the referenced thread. Thanks for your report! |
Microsoft PowerToys version
0.56.2
Running as admin
Area(s) with issue?
Keyboard Manager
Steps to reproduce
I LOVE PowerToys, it's fantastic. Thank you so much for all you work making it rock.
From time to time my mapping of Caps Lock to Ctrl-L will malfunction. A press turns on Caps Lock, but a second press will not turn it off. I think (but again can't reproduce) that it happens just after I login.
Sadly I can't reproduce it regularly - I'm reporting to try to be helpful, it's not a big problem at all.
✔️ Expected Behavior
My keyboard re-mappings should be permanent.
❌ Actual Behavior
The Caps Lock key reverts from my mapping to a it's (semi) normal behavior. It will enable Caps Lock, but not disable it.
