Microsoft PowerToys version

0.67.1

Installation method

Chocolatey

Running as admin

No

Area(s) with issue?

Always on Top

Steps to reproduce

  1. In Windows Settings > System> Multi-tasking, set On the taskbar, show windows that are open on... to All desktops.
  2. Open two windows on two different desktops, focus one of them, and toggle Always on Top for that window.
  3. Switch to another window on a different virtual desktop directly by selecting it in the taskbar.
  4. Switch back to the pinned window on the original virtual desktop.

✔️ Expected Behavior

The pinned window border stays in sync with the pinned window's visibility.

❌ Actual Behavior

  1. Switch to another window on a different virtual desktop directly by selecting it in the taskbar.

    • The pinned window border is "left behind" on the selected desktop.
    • Interacting with the newly-focused window does not affect the stale border.
    • Changing focus (selecting any other window or the desktop) clears the stale border.
  2. Switch back to the pinned window on the original virtual desktop.

    • The pinned window border is missing from that window.
    • Interacting with the window does not restore the border.
    • Changing focus restores the border.

Other Software

Appears to be reproducible with any window, regardless of state (maximized/restored, elevated/not etc.).

No difference when running as administrator.

I've been using always-on-top for months, just started using Windows 11's multi-desktops features and this happened right away.

It's kind of clunky and now I'm not sure if I should stop using multi-desktops or always on top.
