Description of the new feature / enhancement

I hold down a shortcut (I would end up making it a macro) key combination, then move my cursor to any area on a window I want to resize/move.
The shortcut key combo + mouse button (any button on mouse would work) would activate the move command on the active/clicked on window and bring up zone view all in one swoop.

Scenario when this would be used?

Expedite the time it takes to move a window.

I would set up the shortcut to either:

  • A few random key strokes, then map a macro onto my mouse to be able to hold down mapped button on mouse, and hold down left click to begin dragging window WITHOUT aiming the mouse for the top bar of the window
  • Left and right click at same time and hold to auto move the window and bring up fancy zones while both buttons are held would be nice too

Taking more time to write out my thought, re-writing the original post:

I hold down a shortcut (I would end up making it a macro) key combination mapped to an extra mouse button), then move my cursor to anywhere on the window, not limited by to the top tool bar of the window.

The shortcut key combo + mouse button (likely primary or secondary button held down) would activate both the fancy zone layout view, and allow you to click and drag anywhere on a window and bring up fancy zones at the same time.

Action - relocate and resize a window
Current steps:

  1. Navigate mouse from it's current location to the top toolbar
  2. Click and hold and move mouse to pull window from it's current location or from it's snapped size if applicable.
  3. Either release to place window, right click to bring up fancy zones to both resize and relocate the window to a locked location (zone layout location....needs a tool to resize to zone that cursor is hovering over during keystroke, then allow you to continue dragging with new dimensions since I would have the mouse held down anyway during resizing)

Enhancements Opportunities:

  • Instead of moving mouse to top bar, create shortcut that allows a window to be "selected", or moved via click and drag at any location not just the top bar. Bonus is that efficiency would also be increase because it's likely the cursor is already on the window the user wants resized, could worry less about mouse shifting when moving from keyboard to mouse
  • Macro could be mapped to my extra mouse button so I don't have worry about moving my left hand, just my right hand to the mouse to prevent left hand from looking for 3+ shortcut keys
  • In this stage when snapping to a zone, instead of releasing mouse button that is holding on to window, hit a different key (maybe with left hand on keyboard) and allow the selected window to re-size to the zone the cursor is inside, however remain in this new zone size while still being able to drag to another location.
  • Also would love for scroll wheel during the above stage to increase/decrease the selected window during dragging. Then you could combine all these actions into:
  1. Use mouse and shortcut keys to click anywhere on a window
  2. Activate fancy zones and allow dragging of mouse to move selected window
  3. Take window on top of a zone template I created with aspect ratio I favor
  4. hit shortcut key to resize selected window to this zone while still allowing dragging since mouse is held down
  5. Then use my mouse wheel up or down to increase/decrease incrementally the size with respect to it's updated aspect ratio from the zone template layout I made
