statement field should change to the size of the selected value when using the dropdown #100

steps to reproduce:

click in empty field to select
press space key to show dropdown
use arrow keys to choose a value
-> after pressing space, the field changes its size to the length of 1 letter.
when using the arrow keys to scroll up or down the field shows the selected value but stays this small so that only the first letter can be seen.
