Impossible retrieve/set Software tag.

What exactly do you mean with "software tag"?
What is the official type of this tag, a TXXX or what exactly?

Do you mean the software version which ExifTool shows?
(This would be NOT included in your tracks, it's only displayed by exiftools on runtime).
