User Story: I want Firefox shoping to remind me when I’m on a site where I can track product pricing

  • The first time a user visits an untracked product page on a domain that we support, animate the toolbar icon to grab their attention.

Needs:

  • Animated SVG for toolbar icon, ideally with an end state that matches the normal untracked state.

Open Questions:

  • @javaun Should we ever reset the flag for animating the icon? A strawman proposal would be: If it has been 10 days since the user last opened the page action or browser action, reset the flag and reanimate the icon.

@Osmose yeah, I had to think about it and this is a really good idea. Deferring to @sevaan. This icon is really subtle. I don't think we'd want to nag the users with an onboarding hanger for example every 10 days. But if we're just shaking an icon it's not (IMO) an obtrusive action on the user. Our hypothesis could be that this helps users rediscover our utility, in case they ignored the tab onboarding or just forgot.

Continuing the strawman: So if we did "10 day" logic, this would mean that users would just get a continued "buzzing" of this icon on every product page they visit until they click into a hanger (or forever). And that worst case might not be so bad? What do you think Sevaan?

They'd see a buzz at 10 day intervals. After buzzing we reset the counter. Or at least that was my suggestion.

10 days feels like too long.

Maybe we can have increased visibility to start, and then pull back::

  • The icon animates the first time a user visits a product page on a domain we support.
  • Don't buzz again for 48 hours.
  • After 3x 48 hour periods, switch to buzzing once a week.

Sounds good to me, I'll mark that as resolved. We can tune those delays later on.
