I should warn you, at least in my tests while it does seem to work it's different and lots of projects using fog will probably need to tweak their fog settings.

Should fog be distance from camera instead of distance from camera's zplane?

@mrdoob If you tessellate the ground geometry in the animation cloth example it will work, but that is a workaround.
