From Curt:

toggle on/off for mode to constrain nodes to visible boundary. I like sometimes that nodes are constrained to stay on the page. But sometimes, particularly for larger graphs, we won’t be able to explore their structure as well.

off-screen rendering would require scrollbars or mouse interaction to pan/zoom around.
