When having the Transform registration marks option checked, the (c) portion of 501(c)(3) is converted to a copyright symbol, of course. But technically, that's not supposed to be a copyright symbol (and means something else.)
The Transform registration marks option should have an exception to when it applies, when the (c) is directly preceded by 501. (Since there are a bunch of types of 501(c) organizations.)
