private transient Instance<UserTransaction> userTransaction;

Change to:

InitialContext context = new InitialContext();
UserTransaction utx = (UserTransaction)context.lookup("java:comp/UserTransaction");

Or

@Resource(mappedName = "UserTransaction")
private UserTransaction ut;
