I need to attach 'mousedown' events to a swiper component on a page

currently I'm working with Google Tag Manager and I need to use plain javascript to attach some mousedown events to a page that's using a swaiper component. I'm having troubles because the only way to make this work is using 'pointerdown' events but it's not supported on safari and safari IOS. any recomendations?
