Currently, sending SIGHUP to EDGESec causes EDGESec to close and re-open the log file.

This is for compatibility with logrotate.

https://github.com/nqminds/EDGESec/blob/735bf060f3f6a59e80245a575f99f12cb6404dbb/src/edgesec.c#L85-L94

However, most init systems (e.g. OpenWRT's procd or SystemD) allow processes to reload their config files as well when receiving SIGHUP.
