Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open an existing document in Word 365
  2. Read the title bar
  3. Open an existing workbook in Excel 365
  4. Read the title bar

Actual behavior:

(Using "Filename" for the names of the two files):

At step 2 (Word) NVDA reads "filename.docx - Word", however the titlebar visually reads "filename.docx - Saved"
At step 4 (Excel) NVDA reads "filename.xlsx - Excel", however the titlebar visually reads "filename.xlsx - Last modified: Yesterday at 4:20pm"

(Where the last modified time is the whenever the Excel file was last changed)

Expected behavior:

NVDA should report the title bar text as it appears visually.

System configuration

NVDA installed/portable/running from source:

NVDA version:

NVDA 2019.2 installed

Windows version:

Windows 10 1903 Version 18362.1

Name and version of other software in use when reproducing the issue:

Office 365 Version:
16.0.11901.20204

Other questions

Does the issue still occur after restarting your PC?

Yes

Have you tried any other versions of NVDA? If so, please report their behaviors.

Older versions of NVDA (eg 2018.3.2) report the same as 2019.2
The latest alpha build, Version: alpha-18450,8c27752f also behaves the same.

I think this might be a bug in Office 365.
What does Narrator report?

Narrator reports the same title information as NVDA, so yes, it's the way Office 365 is exposing (or not) what it is displaying visually in the title bar.
