Linux Progress? #51
Comments
I don't think it's really usable right now since it's under heavy developement. |
It already works. We already have linux screen capturing in (provided by leonhard) |
Screen capture or game caputure? Is compositing working yet? |
Screen capture works using Xshm and fetching a pixmap of the root window. Unfortunately, there's seems to be some color stuttering to be dealt with. Game capture (as in, OpenGL capture) is not yet implemented. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "compositing" but leonhard has been messing with the XComposite extension and GLX extensions to quicken up screen capturing. Last I checked, it wasn't too successful although things might have changed. I don't know the viability of doing such a thing. Alternatively, there might be quicker and more convenient methods if we search in the individual compositors for say... Kwin or Mutter. In the future, I'm severely hoping we can have an easier solution for screen capturing in Wayland. |
Or if you mean compositing as in the libobs compositor, that's working great. The graphics engine has long since been completed and is fully functional along with source drawing and everything. Right now I'm just working on encoding/rtmp stuff. |
compositing, i'm referring to the feature that allows an overlay of either a still image or a webcam. i believe that's a composite overlay or something like that. pretty much what every other live streaming software allows you to do with multiple inputs. |
Yea, that's already implemented. For quite a long time, in fact. All the graphics stuff is complete. Most everything internally is in a nearly complete state. The only stuff really left is outputs and user interface. |
I'm going to close this issue for the mere lack of a purpose. Linux development is under way as well as any other platforms development. |

Hi guys, I am very excited for this project. I currently use simplescreenrecorder to do my local recordings as well as live streaming. The huge feature missing with his app is compositing. Is obs-studio in a state right now that I could compile and install it in my Xubuntu 13.10 which runs a GTX 760 using Nvidia's website binary driver? Let me know at your earliest conveinence. Maybe the dev at simplescreenrecorder could help you guys with the linux support for capturing etc etc.
