hello - following some weird experiences using the old command, i would like to suggest an enhancement to the "/usr/bin/old" found in the aaa_base package.
the command makes its magic, but most often we need it to take an old file of a config file before editing it, and the old command does not copy the target file, but renames it, and then the admin makes a copy back to the original file to edit it, and often the ownership gets lost in the game, and the associated program cannot read its config file anymore - and it could take us "a while" to discover it is the ownership of the config file, that has thrown everything off track.
That's why i would like to suggest that the /usr/bin/old command (maybe via an option -c ) command copies the target file instead, still adds the date and time, and leaves the original file in place.
