I tried to have a component deploy one "variant" per feature branch locally, and it was quite easy to achieve. To make it easier for other users, I exposed the (Jira) issue ID and the repository in the context, and documented the approach.
We now have a very lightweight alternative to the clone-the-whole-project approach :)
